NP scores in bunches for wins
And the hits just keep on coming.
North Parkland put up nine runs in each of its two games over the past week as it moves toward the Lehigh Valley Legion playoffs.
Through Tuesday’s games, the Buffaloes (8-6) were third in the LVL standings, one game behind Lower Macungie (9-5) and 3 ½ behind front-running South Parkland (11-2).
Against Whitehall-Coplay, both teams saved their best for last and scored a combined nine runs in the seventh inning with the Buffaloes hanging on for a 9-5 win.
Steven Sepko delivered an RBI single, and Aiden Anderson drove in two runs with a single to left to account for three of the six runs scored in the inning by Parkland.
Nate Unger had a big day at the plate and on the mound.
As the starting pitcher, Unger allowed two unearned runs while giving up one hit and one walk. At the plate, Unger was 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.
Aiden Henning scored twice in the game and knocked in a pair of runs. In the fourth, Henning was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly. In the seventh inning rally, Henning reached on an error and was credited with two RBI and later in the inning scored his second run of the game.
North Parkland followed that with a 9-2 win over Salisbury. Eight different NP players collected a total of nine hits in the win.
Peyton Scherff had two hits and scored three runs to pace the offense. Unger launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth that put the Buffaloes up 8-2. Scherff had two doubles in the game and Anderson tripled.
Three pitchers handled the mound work for Parkland. Chase Smith started and pitched an inning giving up a hit with an error leading to an unearned run for the Falcons. Jared Santilli came on and pitched four innings without allowing a hit to get the win.
He worked around some wildness – a hit-by-pitch, wild pitch, and four walks – but limited the damage to just one run in the outing.
Tsubasa Magota threw two scoreless innings for North Parkland.
The home portion of the schedule is completed. North Parkland plays at Lower Macungie and at South Parkland, the two teams ahead of them in the standings.
