North Parkland looks to overtake Lower Mac

The number of remaining games in the Lehigh Valley Legion League are starting to dwindle.

North Parkland is trying to catch Lower Macungie for the number two spot in the standings while also holding off Whitehall-Coplay to keep from falling into fourth.

The Buffaloes (4-6) were edged by Salisbury in the middle of last week’s schedule in a 3-2 loss but gained some payback when they downed the Falcons 13-3 in legion play over the weekend.

Aiden Henning and Nate Unger both collected three hits, including two doubles, to pace the offense. The game was cut to five innings by the 10-run rule with Parkland scoring in all five innings. Henning and Unger delivered back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the first to put the Buffaloes up 2-0.

Pitcher Jared Santilli kept Salisbury’s offense at bay and the Buffaloes took advantage of a two out error in the bottom of the second to keep piling on runs.

Tsubasa Magota reached on the error and then moved into scoring position with a stolen base and scored when Peyton Scherff singled to left to make it 3-0. Henning and Unger repeated their back-to-back doubles routine to make it a 5-0 lead before Salisbury got out of the inning.

A pair of hit batters and a balk helped Salisbury to put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth. Before Salisbury could get any closer, the Buffaloes showed some plate discipline with a pair of walks to open the third and a ground ball by Santilli put both runners into scoring position.

After a walk to Magota filled up the bags, Scherff wasted no time delivering a bases clearing triple to right field, breaking the game open with North Parkland up 8-3. Henning was at the plate with two outs and singled to right for to bust the game open just a little more for the Buffaloes.

Salisbury’s defense again opened the door in the bottom of the fourth with a walk putting two runners on base. Sean Fallon’s single on a line drive to left loaded the bases and a grounder to first by Tommy Sorrentino made it 10-3.

Unger had a single to left with one out in the fifth to drive in Henning, who had reached on a two-base error and Aiden Anderson doubled to make it 12-3. Yet another error on a ground ball ended the game with the Buffaloes taking a 13-3 lead.

The Buffaloes also lost a 4-1 decision to South Parkland last week.
