Falcons top Buffaloes for first win of LV Legion season

It may be a tough season for the Salisbury Legion team, but one can’t say that the Falcons have given up.

The team went up against a tough North Parkland team last week and picked up its first win of the season by knocking off the Buffaloes 3-2.

Alex Lees was dominant on the mound as he threw a complete game and struck out 10 hitters, walking just two. It was just the second start of the season for Lees, who has a 3.50 ERA in his two starts.

The game was a pitching duel for the first five innings before North Parkland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Instead of hanging their heads, Salisbury hitters went to work against Peyton Scherff, who started the game for Parkland.

With one out Lucas Strickland and Liam Christman singled and one out later, Aniel Rojas pinch-hit and worked a walk to load the bases for Logan Kao.

The centerfielder took a 2-2 pitch and lined it to right field for a double that cleared the bases and gave Salisbury a 3-1 lead. Scherff was able to strand Kao at second to end the inning.

The Buffaloes got their second run of the game against Lees in the top of the seventh when Leo Dauberman hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 3-2.

Lees found more gas in the tank and recorded a strikeout and then got a pop-up to second to end the game for his first win of the season.

The Buffaloes got revenge over the weekend with a 13-3 win over the Falcons.

Talon Legitt and Josiah Kuhns delivered hits for Salisbury to account for the only two hits allowed by Parkland pitching. Legitt and Tyler Kuder drove in runs.

Three Salisbury errors led to six unearned runs for North Parkland in the game.

Salisbury also lost to Lower Macungie 15-5 last week. Jamillo Santoyo had an RBI single in the first inning for the Falcons and Markus Jones delivered a two-run triple in the top of the third to give Salisbury a 3-2 lead.

Lower Macungie tied the game in the bottom of the inning. In the next half inning though, Salisbury fought right back with an RBI single from Kuder and a sacrifice fly from Christman to take a 5-3 lead.

The Mustangs scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away and then added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 15-5 win.

Kuder pitched 1 2/3 innings in the game allowing just two unearned runs.

Salisbury (1-8) has rematches against both Lower Macungie and North Parkland this week.
