Falcons outhit So. Parkland in loss
Salisbury dropped its final three regular season games in the Lehigh Valley League and finished the season 1-13.
All five teams in the league were going to play in a postseason tournament, but the Falcons informed the league that they would not have enough players to field a team and dropped out of the playoffs.
The Falcons lost games to Whitehall-Coplay and to South Parkland in the final week of the regular season. They also forfeited a game to Lower Macungie because they didn’t have enough players.
Against the Zephyrs, Salisbury dropped a 5-0 decision after giving up a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.
Josiah Kuhns went 2-for-3 on the day and also threw a scoreless seventh inning to give the offense one last shot at a comeback. Isaac Gross, Logan Kao, Hunter Kotarski, and Lucas Strickland all had a hit in the game with Gross picking up a stolen base.
Salisbury outhit first-place South Parkland in the season finale 7-6, but fell by a score of 5-2. Tanner Kuder led the Falcons with a pair of singles and scored a run in the game. Brady Brinker, Markus Jones, Kao, Tyler Kehl, and Nate Nunez all had hits with Jones delivering a double, the lone extra-base hit in the game for Salisbury.
Coming into the seventh, the Trojans led 5-0. Salisbury loaded the bases and with two outs, Nunez and Brinker both drew walks to push across runs for the Falcons.
The Trojans scored all five of their runs in the first two innings before Strickland came on to pitch and delivered 4 2/3 scoreless innings with Parkland picking up just two hits and drawing one walk against Strickland.
Among players with 20 or more plate appearances, Kao and Liam Christman led Salisbury in hitting with both players finishing at the .300 mark. They also led the team in RBI with four each, while Kuder joined Kao for the team lead in runs scored with five on the season. In stolen bases, Kao finished with four and Christman had three.
Kotarski finished with a 2.90 ERA and Alex Lees completed the season with a 3.50 ERA to lead the Salisbury pitching staff.
