Buffs beat Pen Argyl, Palmerton

The North Parkland Senior Connie Mack team ended a successful month of June with back to back victories in a 2-1 week last week.

After a nine-day break from action, the Buffaloes fell to Forks Township 3-2 last Wednesday. They responded with two straight victories, including a 10-3 win at Pen Argyl on Friday and a 14-4 victory against Palmerton in six innings Monday.

Against Forks, North Parkland never led as the hosts scored a run in the bottom of the second and third innings and then added another in the fifth.

The Buffaloes rallied late with two runs in the top of the seventh inning on RBI ground outs by Walter Merkel and Collin Smith, but were unable to tie or take the lead. Tyler Dietrich, Quentin Velez, Jakobe Jimenez and Mason Vargas all finished with a hit.

In the win over Pen Argyl, North Parkland scored two runs in the top of the first to take an early lead and then did a lot of its damage in the late innings, adding three runs in the fourth and two in both the fifth and sixth innings.

The Buffaloes finished with 12 hits, led by three from Nolan Kishbaugh, who also contributed two RBI and scored two runs. Zachary Seyler tallied two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Joe Kelly, Velez, Dietrich, Aiden Gonzalez, Vargas, Merkel and Callen Wilson all totaled a hit, with Velez and Merkel adding two RBIs.

Kishbaugh started on the mound and picked up the victory, going four innings, giving up just two hits and no earned runs, striking out five.

In the victory against the Blue Bombers, North Parkland jumped out to a sizable lead after bringing home five runs in the bottom of the second. Palmerton chipped away at its deficit with three runs in the third, but the Buffaloes answered back with two more in the bottom of the third and then three in the fourth, one in fifth and three in the sixth.

Eight different players accounted for nine hits, with Kishbaugh finishing with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Kelly, Smith, Royce Morabito, Velez, Dietrich, Vargas and Jimenez all had one hit. Velez was the winning pitcher, going four innings and giving up just four hits and two earned runs.

North Parkland improved to 11-4 overall, sits in sixth place in the league standings. The Buffaloes have two games remaining in the regular season.

The top eight teams qualify for the LVSCM playoffs.
