Walter K. Schmidt Sr., 85, of Northampton, died June 22, 2026, at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton. He was the husband of the late Joan (Braun) Schmidt.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Frank and Lena (Bauman) Schmidt.

He was a 1959 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School.

He worked at Bethlehem Steel as a drop forge for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton, and a member of Coplay Saengerbund.

He coached youth baseball for Northampton Athletic Association.

He is survived by three sons, Karl and wife Anne, Walter K. Jr. and Michael; six grandchildren, Sven, Andrew with Giulianna, Kody, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn and Hunter; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Madelyn, Elliott and Morgan; a brother, Frank and wife Ulrike; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John.
