Trojan T&F teams go unbeaten

Last week’s regular season finale was more than just another track and field meet for Parkland and head coach Stephen Ott. It was a chance to keep Ott’s unbeaten streak in the East Penn Conference regular season alive.

And that’s what the Trojans did. The Parkland boys won 10 of the 18 events against Emmaus in last week’s meet to secure an 85-65 win; the girls, meanwhile, secured a close 76-74 victory on the Hornets’ home track despite Emmaus winning more events.

The Parkland boys were led by runners Radnor Rowlands and Colin McGuigan, both of whom won multiple events. Rowlands crossed the finish line first in both the 100- and 200-meter hurdles, while McGuigan shined in the distance events by securing wins in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

Marcelo Castilla picked up a win in the 800-meter run, while the 3200-meter relay team also picked up a win to round out the winners in the running events. Dallas Reyes (long jump) and Joshua Eduful (pole vault) rounded out Parkland’s winners on the boys side.

The girls side also had a number of multiple-event winners, led by Dhaniya Miner in the running events who crossed the finish line first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Ana Gbur (300-meter hurdles) and the 1600-meter relay squad also picked up wins in the running events.

Vanessa Ball headlined the throwers by winning both the discus and javelin events. Aubrey Delong won the shot put, and Samantha Schultz’s win in the pole vault rounded out Parkland’s victors to secure the win.

Emmaus was led by two athletes who won three different events. Madelyn McCartney shined in the distance events and won the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs, while Claudia Walls was the leading jumper on the day with wins in the long jump, high jump and triple jump.

Parkland beat Whitehall a during the penultimate week of the regular season.

The Trojan boys team topped Whitehall 124-11, while the PHS girls team beat the Zephyrs 112.5-37.5.

Both Parkland teams finished the season 7-0 and on top of the EPC’s Lehigh Division. The Trojan boys team was the only unbeaten team in the league this season, while in the girls standings East Stroudsburg South went 7-0 in the Monroe Division and Easton finished 7-0 in the Northampton Division.

Parkland competed in this week’s EPC Championship Meet at Whitehall High School. Results will be in next week’s edition of The Press.
