Salisbury softball makes CL playoffs
It’s a good news, bad news situation for the Salisbury softball team.
The bad news is that the Falcons’ regular season ended with a pair of losses to tough teams in Palisades and Palmerton.
The good news is that the rest of the schedule played out well for them and they clinched a Colonial League playoff spot for the first time since 2018. The Falcons also have a guaranteed spot in the District 11 3A playoffs.
Palisades finished off Salisbury 11-1, but Leilanna Negron, Gianna Olds, and Jenna Swoyer all had two hits in the game. Swoyer homered for the lone run for Salisbury to get her second home run in as many games.
Monday night against Palmerton, Olds and Swoyer collected a pair of hits again and were joined by Tessa Kemmerer who had two hits and scored a run.
Palmerton was determined to get some revenge for the Falcons spoiling their undefeated season earlier in the year and grabbed a 12-8 win.
The Falcons trailed 6-0 when Julia Carney drove in a run to start a three-run rally in the bottom of the fourth. Swoyer drove in two more runs with a single to left to make it a 6-3 game, but Salisbury had to wait to make up any more ground.
Swoyer, who found her power stroke late in the season, brought Salisbury all the way back and then some with a home run to right field that gave the Falcons a 7-6 lead. The Bombers’ potent offense put together a six-run top of the sixth to answer right back and get the win.
Salisbury will enter the Colonial League playoffs as the number eight seed and will play at Northwestern Lehigh Friday in the quarterfinals.
The Tigers downed Salisbury 10-1 during the regular season, but the Falcons started playing their best immediately after that game when they beat an undefeated Palmerton team and then knocked off a tough Notre Dame of Green Pond team to gain some confidence going into the latter part of the season.
