PHS softball makes districts

The Parkland High School softball team had a busy final week of the regular season, playing four games in eight days, going 2-2 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contests.

The Trojans won their first two games of the week, defeating Central Catholic 5-2 last Tuesday, April 28. Two days later, they took down Dieruff 12-2 in five innings. This past Monday, Parkland fell to Emmaus 8-0 and then closed out the regular season with a 7-6 defeat at Whitehall on Tuesday.

In the win over the Vikettes, CCHS actually took a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs in its first at-bats. Parkland got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and then took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning.

The Trojans finished with seven hits, two coming from Addison Fritzinger, who also scored a run. Holly Chase, Allie Flynt, Gianna Hudock, Cheyanne Brawn and Gabriella Morrison all had a hit with Hudock adding two RBIs and Flynt one.

Fritzinger started inside the circle and threw a complete game, allowing just the two earned runs, while striking out six batters.

In the victory against the Huskies, Parkland got out in front early, scoring eight runs in the top of the first and was able to get the game into the mercy rule.

They had 16 hits, led by four from Libby Pinkham, who also had three RBIs and scored two runs. Chase, Morrison and Lila Dawson each had two hits and Ami Patel, Flynt, Hudock, Sarah Linko, Brawn and Shayla Jenkins all finished with one hit, with each of Flynt,

Morrison and Jenkins contributing two RBIs. Dawson threw four innings and struck out three, while Fritzinger threw an inning to collect the win.

Against the Hornets, they scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth and four in the sixth, while holding Parkland to just two hits, one by Flynt and one by Linko.

In the game with the Zephyrs, Whitehall erased a three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs to walk it off for the victory. The Trojans scored three runs in their first at-bats and added one more in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead heading to the fifth.

They finished with 14 hits, four of which came from Jenkins. Both Chase and Patel recorded three hits, with Chase adding two RBIs.

Fritzinger tallied two hits and both Dawson and Brawn had one hit.

Parkland finished the regular season with a 8-12 overall record and 8-8 mark in the conference. The Trojans just missed out on the EPC playoffs, but will prepare for the District 11 6A Tournament coming up.
