PHS lacrosse teams head into district tournament

The Parkland High School boys and girls lacrosse teams are ready to compete for gold in the District 11 3A Tournaments, beginning this week.

The PHS boys team finished the regular season with a 12-6 overall record and 7-2 mark in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The Trojans qualified for the four team EPC playoffs as the three seed, but fell to second seed Central Catholic, 12-5 in the semifinal round last Wednesday.

In the game with the Vikings, Central took control of the game with a strong second half where it outscored the Trojans 8-2. The two teams were neck and neck in the opening quarter and were tied 2-2 after one.

The Vikings scored two of the three goals in the second quarter to go to halftime leading 4-3. Then CCHS held a 4-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter and a 4-0 one in the fourth to come out on top.

John Gerancher and Bailey Wetmore combined to score the five goals for Parkland, with Gerancher netting three and Wetmore adding two. Colton Arezzi contributed one assist. Owen Fehnel finished with seven saves in net for the Trojans.

The Lady Trojans just missed out on qualifying for EPCs, ending the regular season at 13-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference, tied with Liberty, who earned the four seed in leagues at 4-4 thanks to a win over Parkland in the regular season.

In districts, the boys team is expected to be the number two overall seed and have a bye in the quarterfinal round. If the Trojans are the three seed, they will most likely match up with Northampton or Freedom in the quarterfinals.

The girls team is \the five seed and will face four seed, Liberty, in a quarterfinal matchup.
