Nestor earns D-11 medal
The Northwestern track and field teams’ 2026 season ended last week at the District 11 Championships, held May 12-13 at Whitehall High School.
The Tigers had the difficult task of competing in Class 3A, where they are competing against schools with up to five times the enrollment of Northwestern Lehigh.
The Tigers had one medal winner at the meet in Rosalia Nestor, along with several top-10 finishes last week.
“They did an awesome job,” said Northwestern head coach Chuck Groller. “They know going into something like that they have to give it their all to get to states in triple-A and they gave it their best. That’s all I can ask for.”
Nestor, a state qualifier last year in Class 2A, took fourth place in the 1600-meter run at districts to earn a medal, which went to the top four finishers in each event. The sophomore ran the race in 5:12.81. She also finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:22.30.
Seniors Hannah Gober and Kylie Christman finished back to back in the javelin last week. Gober’s throw of 112 feet, 7 inches was good for sixth place. Christman’s pitch of 112-2 took seventh.
Senior Taylor Langley had two top-10 finishes at districts. She ran the 300-meter hurdles in 48.55 for ninth place. She earned the same place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.27 after running a 16.34 in preliminary heats.
Senior Logan Mesics earned eighth place last week in triple jump with a leap of 43-8, while senior Ethan Solderich was eighth in pole vault at 11-3.
All five Tiger relay teams that qualified for districts finished in the top 10 last week.
The girls 4x100 led the way as the team of Sophia Schaffer, Ava Snyder, Langley and Juliet Snyder posted a 50.55 for seventh place.
The girls 4x800 relay team took ninth place in 10:19.67 with the foursome of Emily Kistler, Madison Bisner, Katherine Furman and Nestor.
Northwestern’s girls 4x400 team of Schaffer, Langley, Snyder and Kistler ran a 4:09.06 for ninth place.
The Tiger boys 4x100 relay team of Landon Gauweiler, Michael Lagowy, Kemurry Morgan and Benjamin Moyes took eighth place in 43.39, while the boys 4x800 team of Brady Furman, Isaac Grubb, Weston Killar and Noah Griffith finished 10th at 8:31.31.
This season saw the Tiger girls team finish 7-0 and earn a division title, while the boys team went 6-1. The team also had success in several invitationals throughout the season.
“We went to Tamaqua and the girls won a plaque up there,” said Groller. “And we won the division for the girls.
“At Blue Mountain they had an awesome day for the boys and the girls. As for the group of kids and what we had, seniors and underclassmen, I’m very pleased with the year. They had an awesome year.”
