Two men have been charged after an explosive device was thrown from a vehicle near a Catasauqua church, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
Matthew Pletz, 56, and Jack Pletz, 24, both of Catasauqua, were charged for allegedly throwing an explosive device from a truck.
Local and state police were called shortly after 9 a.m. to the area of Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., May 19, Election Day. The church is a polling place in the borough.
No injuries were reported, said police, adding the polling place stayed open.
Police determined the explosive device detonated about a half-block away and around the corner from the entrance of the church. It is believed to have been an isolated incident, police said. Third Street at Pine Street and Third Street at Walnut Street were closed for the police investigation.
The Troop M Major Case Team led the investigation, with assistance from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Catasauqua Borough Police Department, Troop M Fire Marshal Unit, Allentown Bomb Squad and North Catasauqua Borough Police Department.
