Safety concerns raised about Linda Lane
The May 7 Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting opened with resident Randy Kraft raising safety concerns about conditions at the end of Linda Lane, citing hazardous barricades and water buildup that freezes in winter as well as pedestrian safety. Township Manager Bud Carter explained improvements must wait until completion of a nearby trail project.
The board approved prior meeting minutes and bills, and in new business, authorized a culvert change for the walking trail proposed by W. B. Homes. Trail work is expected this summer, with the development finished by year’s end. Officials noted the project will improve durability and reduce future maintenance for the homeowner’s association. Kraft also requested additional signage to restrict unauthorized vehicles on the trail.
Christopher Greb, executive director of Macungie Ambulance Corps, provided its annual report including 5,110 service calls last year, highlighting increased demand and expanded training programs.
Lehigh County Authority’s Chief Capital Works Officer Charles Volk, Project Engineer Amy Kunkle and Ed DiMond, consultant from Buchart Horn, shared a map for informational purposes of the Buss Acres Water Line Extension and presented plans for a waterline extension to address contamination from PFAS and radon affecting about 100 homes. The proposal sparked concern from Supervisor John Zgura, who warned it could lead to farmland development. “You are opening all our farm land/fields for development. I absolutely do not like this at all. You will end up developing all those fields. I know exactly what you guys are doing. You are bringing the waterline through all our farmland (Holtzman’s property). In five years, there will be developments. If I can stop this I will,” Zgura said.
Residents voiced both concern over growth and urgency to resolve water safety issues. No action was taken.
The board also discussed recreation commission quorum changes, tabled a sports camp request and approved an equipment sale and the hiring of a part-time park worker.
In the planning commission new business, the board approved the proposed Lower Macungie Township data center ordinance text amendments to send to Lower Macungie Township.
Planning Coordinator Brian Miller explained Lower Macungie Township is “trying to stay ahead of the data centers regarding locations such as 1,000-foot distance from church or school.”
Mohr also clarified the Vera Cruz Community Association organized the Easter egg hunt in April. It was mistakenly reported Mystic Chain Park hosted the event. While the egg hunt is held at the park, it is the Vera Cruz Community Association who runs the event.
The next meeting is 7 p.m. May 21 in the township building.
