Local resident participates in gifted events

Olivia Zemenak of Bethlehem was among East Stroudsburg University students studying special education hosting two events with local school districts this month.

Frist, students taking Low Incidence Disabilities (SPED 314) and High Incidence Disabilities (SPED 313) welcomed students from East Stroudsburg High School South to campus on April 16. The high school and college students have been corresponding with each other this semester via letter regarding the book, “The Unteachables” by Gordon Kormon.

The second event, April 18, welcomed 64 gifted students from local and regional school districts to the once-a-semester “What If: Super Saturday Gifted Event.” ESU students taking Instructional Planning in Special Education (SPED 215) created a day of hands-on learning for elementary and middle school aged children (grades 2-8).

ESU’s Saturday Gifted Institute program is the only program of its kind in Pennsylvania.

Residents on Montclair State Dean’s List

Maryam Kariym and Sophia Walsh of Bethlehem are among students named to the Montclair State University fall 2025 Dean’s List.

The Dean’s List, issued after the close of the Fall and Spring semesters by the academic deans, gives recognition to students with a 3.50 or higher semester GPA if a minimum of 12 credits is earned in courses that contribute to the GPA and if there are no incomplete grades for that semester.

Doctor honored for excellence in family medicine

The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) announced the winners of the organization’s annual physician awards, naming St. Luke’s Nguyet-Cam Vu Lam, MD, the 2026 Family Physician of the Year.

Dr. Lam is Program Director of the St. Luke’s Bethlehem Family Medicine Residency Program, Clinical Professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and a Family Medicine Physician with Star Community Health.

The award was presented at the PAFP’s spring conference in Bethlehem on April 3. In recognition of outstanding patient care and dedication to the field of family medicine, the Family Physician of the Year award is given to a physician who:

• Demonstrates a commitment to comprehensive, compassionate care for patients;

• Pursues excellence in medicine with integrity and the highest ethical standards;

• Promotes trust in science;

• Honors the physician-patient relationship; furthers the specialty of family medicine; and

• Serves as a role model and motivator to patients and colleagues.

Local students join ensembles

Three Bethlehem area residents were among the more than 200 Lebanon Valley College students, from across all majors on campus to participate in at least one music ensemble.

Benjamin Graybeal, a member of College Choir and a graduate of Liberty HS, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science.

Wesley Koch, a member of College Choir and a graduate of Liberty HS, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science.

Owen Haas of Bethlehem, a member of Symphony Orchestra and Valley Jazz Orchestra and Brass Ensemble and graduate of Liberty HS, is pursuing a bachelor of music in audio and music production.

Student inducted into Nursing Honor Society

Ellen Adams of Bethlehem was part of the latest La Salle University class inducted into the Kappa Delta Chapter of the Sigman Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Oct. 17. The 32 students and one faculty member are all from La Salle’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Founded in 1922 by six nursing students, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) has more than 100,000 active members and 600 chapters at institutions of higher education and health care partners from around the world. Sigma members include clinical nurses and administrators, academic nurse educators and researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and others working to fulfill the organization’s vision of connected, empowered nurse leaders transforming global health care.

Student in Scranton business honors program

Benjamin D. Blum of Bethlehem is among the 32 members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2029 who enrolled in its prestigious Frank P. Corcione Business Honors Program, one of the University’s five programs of excellence.

Students in this program complete four years of honors studies in economics, entrepreneurship, operations management, accounting, finance, international business, marketing and management, as well as a series of personal development extracurricular activities in service and career building.

Blum is a finance major at Scranton.

Resident in Muhlenger production

Samantha Marrero of Bethlehem took part in the theater production of “Everybody” at Muhlenberg College this spring. A graduate of Freedom HS, Marrero performed the duties of Captioner while studying psychology and theater as a member of the Class of 2028 at Muhlenberg.

Local residents attend Yale conference

Nakeem Facey of Fountain Hill and Amiah Riddick of Bethlehem were among seventeen students from East Stroudsburg University’s Black Student Union (BSU) who traveled to Yale University recently to attend the 2026 Black Solidarity Conference, the largest undergraduate conference hosted at Yale and the longest-running, Black-led Ivy League conference in the country.

Residents honored for academics and service

Two Bethlehem area Lebanaon Valley University students were selected for Phi Alpha Epsilon, the College’s honor society that recognizes academic achievement and service to others.

Local students are Abriana Ferrari, a homeschooled graduate pursuing a bachelor of science in biochemistry and molecular biology, and Lauren Jancsarics, a Freedom HS graduate, pursuing a bachelor of science and doctor of physical therapy in exercise science and physical therapy.

Flagler graduate

Flagler College will celebrate the academic and personal accomplishments of Emma Kichline, from Bethlehem, and more than 600 graduates from the Class of 2026.

This year’s class reflects a broad range of experiences and perspectives, including 21 international students and domestic students representing 34 states.

Kichline, from Bethlehem, 18015 will be honored with a bachelor of arts in digital media production and journalism.

Dr. Lam
