Emmaus boys lax beats PV, Nazareth

The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team continued its hot start to Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition as it won both of its conference matchups last week and has won five of its first six.

Emmaus opened last week with a 14-4 victory over Pleasant Valley Tuesday, April 7, and followed that with a 9-8 double overtime victory over Nazareth. The Hornets fell to Pine-Richland, 12-4, in a nonleague game Friday.

In the win over the Bears, Dylan Maloney led the attack with a game-high four goals, while adding an assist. Anthony Attar had a hat trick and an assist, while Alex Younker tallied two goals.

Greyson Schmidt, Reiken Bechtel, Brady McKechnie, Aiden Issler and Ryan Nytz found the back of the net once. Schmidt and McKechnie both contributed an assist. Liam Lewis made five saves in net for the win. The Hornets won 12-of-21 faceoffs, with Colin Garrett getting 10 and Max Weber two.

In the victory against the Blue Eagles, Maloney again came up big as he scored the winner with 2:15 left in the second overtime for his second OT-winning goal in two weeks. He, along with Attar and Sam Pechulis scored twice, while Schmidt, Younker and Weber had one.

Maloney also dished out two assists with Younker adding one. Lewis finished with 12 saves. The Hornets won 17-of-23 faceoffs with Garrett notching 8-of-12 and Weber going 9-of-11.

Against Pine-Richland, Pechulis and Garrett did all of the scoring for their team with two goals apiece. Attar had an assist. Lewis made nine saves in net and Garrett and Weber combined to win 11-of-20 faceoffs.

Emmaus improved to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
