Sheckler News: PSSAs at Sheckler Elementary set to start April 22

PSSA testing at Sheckler Elementary School begins April 22 and continues through May 2.

The English language arts testing will be held April 22-24. Makeup days are April 25 and 26.

Math testing is set for April 29 and 30. Science testing will follow May 1 and 2.

Fourth-grade career day is set for May 3.

Sheckler Elementary yearbooks are on sale for $20 through May 3.

All fourth-grade students will receive one free book from Sheckler Home and School Association.

On May 8, Catasauqua Area School District will dismiss early. Sheckler students will be dismissed 1:30 p.m.

CASD Board of Education recently approved four new teachers to be added to Sheckler’s team. Kindergarten will welcome Elizabeth Miller, first-graders will gain Abbey Schiffert and Tiandra Riegel, and third-grade students will add Laura Kotran.

Sheckler is seeking a food service substitute. The position offers flexibility in scheduling and can often lead to a full-time position.

The position pays $13.25 per hour, and clearances are required.

Interested candidates should contact the CASD administration office, 201 N. 14th St., for information on applying.

Sheckler is seeking a noncertified instructional aide. The position runs yearly with seven hours of paid work time per day and a 30-minute unpaid/unassigned lunch break.

The position will support and assist the academic, behavioral and emotional needs of the classroom in both regular and special education settings.

Interested applicants can submit a resume, Pennsylvania standard teaching application and clearances to humanresources@cattysd.org. Applications will be accepted until the position has been filled.

Giant Food Stores donated $3,095.18 to CASD from customers who participated in the Round Up program. Thank you to all who donated and to Giant for organizing the program.

Sheckler’s fourth-grade students enjoyed time outside with some hands-on science experiences. Students learned about the benefits of insects in soil by exploring the school’s pollinator garden box. Photos have been posted to the school’s Facebook page.
