Plan to attend community day May 7

Lower Macungie Township will hold a community day 4-8 p.m. May 7. There will be free, fun activities for all ages including games, inflatables, entertainment and live music. Food will be available for purchase.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. April 18 to discuss “The Dictionary of Lost Words” by Pip Williams. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

Creation Station will be offered 10-11 a.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 22 and 10-11 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. May 13 for ages 2 and up.

The Art of Cooking: Garden Party will be held 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 22. This adult event will celebrate Earth Day with a cooking demonstration and discussion of food featured in “The Last Garden in England.”

Get In The Game for families is an opportunity to play your favorite games 6-8 p.m. April 23.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon April 23.

There will be family story times for all ages but most suited for ages 2-5 years 10-10:30 a.m. April 24 and 25.

The Lower Macungie Library Writers Group will meet 10-11:30 a.m. April 25 to encourage and inspire writers.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 26. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Creative Crafts in Alburtis for youth will be offered 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 30 at the Alburtis Community Center.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 to noon May 1 is “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. The book for June 5 is “Pineapple Street” by Jenny Jackson. The book club meets virtually.

For the Birds for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. May 1 to make a simple seed feeder.

There will be a Star Wars-themed scavenger hunt for grades K-5 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 4.

Sunny Day Story time will begin May 1 for children ages 2-5 years. This story time will be held outdoors; in case of inclement weather, it will move indoors with a limited number of spaces available. Future dates are May 15 and May 29.

Books & Beyond will meet May 13 to discuss “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith.

The teen advisory board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. May 16 for pizza and planning.

There will be a Star Gazers Scavenger Hunt 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 18 for grades K-5.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 20.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day Clothes Recycling Event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding and towels (no stuffed animals). The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27, rain or shine. There will be many treasures to be found in this large development.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Association will meet 6:30 p.m. May 1 at Alburtis Tavern for their May banquet.

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon May 2 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall. Tickets for the June 6 picnic will be available. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale will be held 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 3 and 4 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. May 2. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a spring craft and vendor show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4. There will be crafts, a gift basket auction, attic treasures, baked goods, perennial plants, refreshments and lunch.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will not meet in May due to scheduling conflicts.

Lower Macungie pool memberships are available online. Registration for swim lessons is now open.

The summer playground program runs June 24 through Aug. 9 for children ages 6-11 years. Online registration for Lower Macungie Township residents is now open.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Plots are available to rent on a first come, first served basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the community center for more information.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center; residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance, and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours for May are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day. Yard waste collection will take place on the day after regular trash collection on the weeks of April 29, May 13 and May 27.
