LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

PHS girls lax earns first league win

The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team has been dealing with bad weather that has caused a number of postponements over the last two weeks.

The Trojans had four games postponed due to weather within the last two weeks, which will make for a busy upcoming schedule coming up and a lack of playing experience in the meantime.

Parkland was supposed to host Moravian Academy in a nonconference game last Wednesday night, but that was postponed. A game at Bethlehem Catholic last Friday afternoon was canceled, but the Trojans did get a game in against Council Rock North this past Saturday, an 18-6 setback in their first game since March 30.

They followed that up, however, with some positive momentum, earning their first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory of the regular season, a 16-4 win over Northampton Tuesday night at home.

Gigi Leonzi recorded a hat trick with three goals to lead the offense. Anna Sensinger tallied two goals and Addison Winfield rounded out the scoring with one goal. Lila Temchatin contributed one assist. Hailey Smith and Katie Generose both spent time in net for Parkland. Smith finished with 12 saves and Generose added one.

Council Rock North had seven different goal scorers, 11 of which came from two players, Julie Ondria (six) and Cat McBride (five).

Parkland took full control in the first half in the game with the Kids, leading 5-2 after the first quarter and then outscoring them 4-0 in the second quarter to go on top 9-2 at halftime. They continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Northampton 7-2 in that frame.

Leonzi paced the attack with eight goals and two assists. Sensinger recorded two goals and each of Madi Roseman, Juliana Varano, Hailey Schimmer, Lily McAfee and Ava Toman all had one goal. Milla Hahn contributed two assists. Smith made five saves in net.

The Trojans were supposed to play Freedom on Monday night, but that was postponed. Parkland, which is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the EPC, has three games in three days this week and then four games in five days next week.

The Trojans hosted Northwestern Lehigh on Wednesday night and are at Pleasant Valley tonight. They play Freedom on Monday night and then Central Catholic on Tuesday night, both games at home, before playing at Northwestern on Thursday night and then are at Council Rock South next Friday afternoon.
