Greater Lehigh Valley Filmmaker Festival at ArtsQuest Center

The Greater Lehigh Valley Filmmaker Festival is April 26 - 28, Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, Bethlehem.

7:30 p.m. April 26 - Lehigh Valley native Stephanie Gardner will unveil two episodes from her upcoming project, “33 and Me,” an international travel documentary television series, which follows American film director Gardner, who upon turning 33, travels to more than 33 countries to meet other film directors in their 30s and explore their lives, careers and cultures.

Each episode of “33 and Me” features a specific country and introduces audiences to the current generation of cinematic storytellers who are dynamically challenging the status quo of the world today. “33 and Me” explores the past, present and future of cinema in each of the 33 nations Gardner visits. The screening will offer two episodes of the upcoming series followed by a Q&A and talkback with Gardner.

11 a.m. April 27 - Student Showcase of film shorts from Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts students as part of their Literary Arts curriculum. The films were made on smartphones with no budget or high concept.

4 p.m. April 27 - “Curated Film Series: Selected Shorts Block.” Four short films selected by curators of ArtsQuest’s four-year film series, “Black Film: Then & Now,” “Cinema Significa,” “Fem in Film” and “LV LGBTQ+ Film Series.” There will be a Q&A and talkback with the curators.

1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. April 27 - Blocks 1 and 2; Blocks 3 and 4 - 2 p.m., 4:15 p.m. April 28. Adjudicated blocks highlight Lehigh Valley filmmakers. All blocks include films with mature themes not suitable for children, including language, violence and other adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.

8 p.m. April 27 - “The Unknown Planet Mystery Screening.” The Unknown Planet series is a subscription-based film series of 12 films annually where the audience does not know the title until the movie is screened. April’s screening is open to the public. The film will be selected by guest curator Jesse Pires, Director and Curator, Lightbox Film Center, University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

8 p.m. April 19 through 8 p.m. April 21; Screening, 2:15 p.m. April 28; Awards ceremony, 6:30 p.m. April 28 - “48-Hour Film Challenge” where filmmakers create a 3 to 5-minute film in 48 hours based on stipulations such as specific character name, prop and line of dialogue.

Some screenings are free. Some screenings are ticketed.
