Parkland girls win final four games of season

The Parkland High School girls basketball team is heading into the postseason with some momentum as the Trojans won their final three games of the regular season.

Their two most recent wins came at home against Emmaus last Friday and then in the regular season finale at Central Catholic this past Monday.

The Trojans took an early lead after the first quarter, going on top 17-11 and then outscored the Hornets 12-10 in the second quarter to go into halftime ahead 29-21. Emmaus rallied a little bit in the third quarter, taking a 14-10 advantage in the frame and trailed 39-35 heading into the final quarter.

Parkland responded and kept its lead until the end, outscoring the Hornets 11-7 in the final eight minutes.

Talia Zurinskas (19) and Madi Siggins (18) did most of the scoring for Parkland, combining for 37 points. Isabella Hallal added six points and Aneri McGalla contributed five.

Parkland used strong second and third quarters to extend its lead and take control of the game.

Leading 16-13 after the opening frame, the Trojans then outscored the Vikettes 29-18 in the next two periods to take a double-digit lead and end the season on top.

Zurinskas and Siggins both finished with team-highs of 16 points. Hallal also ended in double figures with 10 points. Delaney Chilcote recorded seven points and McGalla added six.

Parkland earned the three seed in the upcoming East Penn Conference playoffs, finishing the regular season 19-2 overall and 14-1 in the conference. The Trojans host a quarterfinal game against the sixth seed, Nazareth, this Friday at 5:30 p.m., at Parkland High School. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Trojan boys game, also against Nazareth, tipping off around 7 p.m.
