Girls swimmers finish third, beat Trojans at CC Classic

The Emmaus girls swim team has completed its dual meet schedule with a mark of 8-1 in the East Penn Conference and 8-5 overall, leaving the Hornets in second place behind Parkland (9-0 EPC, 11-1 overall).

The regular season ended for the Hornets with a 119-66 win over Nazareth (7-2, 7-3).

Last Saturday, Emmaus took part in the Cedar Crest Classic at Parkland High School and took a respectable third-place finish against some of the top teams from the region. Upper Dublin (141.3) and Governor Mifflin (112.8) finished ahead of the Hornets, who had a team score of 109.1 at the event.

Veronica Karboski stepped up to post a personal best time of :25.26 in the 50-yard freestyle, putting her third in the event. Georgia Magditch also put up a personal best time in the 200-yard freestyle as she finished fifth with a time of 2:01.02.

Mabry Krause had a strong day with two personal best times. In the 200-yard freestyle relay she swam a time of :25.66 for her leg of the race and then in the 200-yard freestyle individual event. Krause finished with a time of 2:02.75 for eighth place. In her other individual event, the 100-yard freestyle, Krause finished seventh.

Mia Baldwin swam the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:38.81, which was good enough for a seventh place spot in the event. Izzy Sparaco finished eighth in the 100-ayrd backstroke, while Sophia Harmon and Gloria Klees both had ninth-place finishes with Harmon swimming the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:21.13 and Klees finishing the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.42 for the Hornets.

In relays, Emmaus grabbed a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relays with a time of 3:46.16 with a team comprised of Klees, Harmon, Baldwin, and Magditch. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Krause, Baldwin, Harmon, and Karboski finished fourth with a time of 1:42.26, just :02.70 off the top pace set by Upper Dublin.

The Hornets were also just :00.10 behind Governor Mifflin for third and :00.51 behind the Parkland team that finished in second place.

Emmaus teams finished eighth and ninth in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:55.98 and 1:58.46.

In the win over Nazareth, Magditch had four top finishes as she posted individual wins in the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle and was part of the 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard freestyle team that also took top finishes.

Harmon, Krause and Klees had three finishes in the top spots. Harmon won the 100-yard breaststroke, Krause took the 100-yard backstroke, and Klees found a win in the 100-yard freestyle. Their other wins came as members of relay teams in the 200-yard medley and the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Keira Gilboy took second in diving, just 5.05 points behind Nazareth’s Sophia Gorman and Elle Bagley finished third with a score of 140.10.

Saturday is the EPC Diving Championship, which will be held at Emmaus High School. The District 11 Diving Championship is scheduled for Feb. 24 with swimming championships a week later at Parkland.
