PHS boys soccer stays unbeaten in league play

The Parkland High School boys soccer team continued its perfect play against Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, winning three league games last week. But the week concluded with the Trojans dropping their first game of the season, a nonconference game on the road at Conestoga.

Parkland remains at the top of the EPC standings at 13-0. They are 13-1 overall. Rival Emmaus, which has posted 14 straight shutouts, is the lone other unbeaten team in the conference at 12-0-1 and 12-1-1 overall.

To begin the week last week, the Trojans won three games in four days, two of which were on the road.

They sneaked by Pleasant Valley 1-0 last Monday night, Sept. 25, at home, then beat East Stroudsburg North 13-0 on Wednesday and Allen 4-0 on Thursday, both away from home. Parkland then fell 5-0 against the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon.

Kyle Tobia scored the lone goal of the game with the Bears on an assist by Caleb Daniels. Zach Ironside finished with two saves. Parkland outshot Pleasant Valley 14-2 and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

There were nine different goal scorers in the victory over the Timberwolves. Lincoln Fritz led the way for the offense, recording a hat trick with three goals. Logan Thrash, Josh Daniels and Caleb Daniels both recorded two goals, and Elias Salit, Oscar Cardozo, Nathan Park, Ryan Bender and Ramy Chaker all found the back of the net once. Chakar had a team-high three assists, Jacob Silman and Trevor Grice both had two assists and Thrash, Ryan Van Dien, Bender, Dylan Rochus and Salit each ended with one assist. Dan Sipling started in goal and played the entire game, but was not forced into action as the Trojans outshot ESN 29-0.

Parkland’s four goals against the Canaries came from four different players as Josh Daniels, Sam Masenheimer, Caleb Daniels and Grice all found the back of the net. Sprunk tallied two assists and Caleb Daniels and Bryce Peters added one. Ironside finished with six saves.

The Trojans were shutout for the first time this season at Conestoga. Ironside ended the game with four saves. Parkland actually had the edge in shots on goal, 10-9.

Parkland has two games this week, both in conference. The Trojans were at Liberty this past Tuesday night and then are at Whitehall Saturday night.
