St. Luke’s University Hospital on Newsweek ‘World’s Best’ list

St. Luke’s University Hospital has been named one of the “World’s Best” hospitals by Newsweek magazine for the fifth year in a row.

“This prestigious achievement is due to our outstanding doctors, nurses and other staff who work together as a team to provide the highest standards care to our patients every day,” said Donna Sabol, St. Luke’s Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer.

Of 414 American hospitals to make the list, 27 are based in Pennsylvania.

St. Luke’s University Hospital, which encompasses St. Luke’s Bethlehem and Allentown campuses, was ranked 7th overall in the state and is the top-ranked hospital from the Lehigh Valley.

“The world’s best hospitals consistently attract the best people and provide the best outcomes for patients as well as the most important new therapies and research. Of all the hospitals in the world, relatively few can do all those things year in and year out. The best belong to a very exclusive club,” stated Newsweek.

To create the ranking, Newsweek and Statista Inc., a global market research and consumer data company, designed a methodology that evaluated hospitals from 28 nations using data from three sources:

• Hospital recommendations from peers: an online survey conducted among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals and hospital managers in 28 countries

• Patient experience: surveys of patient satisfaction with hospitals

• Medical KPIs (e.g. data on quality of treatment, hygiene measures)

• PROMs implementation survey: questionnaires measuring patients’ perception of their functional well-being and quality of life
