North Catasauqua treasurer to retire

During the Feb. 20 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, Treasurer Annette Englert officially announced her retirement, effective in April.

She will be replaced by Christina Czonstka, who began her employment Feb. 27. Englert will work closely with the new treasurer during the next two months to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Council President Peter Paone extended his thanks to Englert for her dedication and hard work and expressed his shared sorrow in her departure by the entire staff.

During the office report, borough Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits requested authorization to outsource payroll. She explained a financial audit showed errors with payroll for the second year in a row.

Jandrisovits went on to explain the current system is outdated, and it was the recommendation of the auditor to move payroll systems and invest in an accounts payable system.

Paone supported the claim, and council voted to give authorization. Jandrisovits will seek out some options but will only begin with payroll for the time being. This transition will impact budgets but is reportedly a much-needed change.

Paone also reminded the public to read and review the River Central plan, which can be found on the borough website. He requested residents develop comments and provide feedback in the coming months, as all suggestions are valued and should be heard.

It other business, council heard about the results of a Department of Community and Economic Development study into the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua fire departments.

North Catasauqua Borough Council next meets 7 p.m. March 6. Visit the borough website to view the agenda ahead of time.
