Egypt/Cementon: Shepherd of the Hills to host Hunger Initiative meal March 5

Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative will host a free community meal 4-6 p.m. March 5 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main St., Egypt. Meals of chili, rice, applesauce and dessert are guaranteed for the first 100 guests.

Shepherd of the Hills will sell nut rolls through March 12 to benefit the youth group. Available flavors are nut, lekvar, poppy seed, apricot and raspberry.

Delivery is March 26.

The church is also holding Lenten services 7 p.m. Wednesdays through March 29.

Whitehall Active Community Center, 2301 Pine St., is co-sponsoring a community event with Whitehall Lions Club, set for noon-2 p.m. March 14.

Dr. Peter Kleckner, of Kleckner Audiology, will be speaking about tinnitus, hearing loss and rehabilitation.

The Whitehall-Coplay American Legion baseball team holds sign-ups 6-8 p.m. March 15 and 22 and noon-2 p.m. March 25 at the field house on Potter Terrace, Coplay.

There is a registration fee. A deposit is due at the time of sign-up.

Lions Club District 14K scheduled its annual bowlathon event for noon-3 p.m. March 19 at Jordan Lanes, 731 Jordan Parkway. This event supports the Whitehall Lions Club and the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

The Ironton Rail Trail spring historical walk will be 9 a.m. March 25. Meet at the Whitehall Parkway Barn, 4041 Chestnut St. This 7-mile, guided, four-hour hike will be led by Bob Abbott and Ray Bieak.

Whitehall Lions Club is collecting clean plastic shopping bags to be transformed into a composite material park bench. The goal is to collect 40,000 bags by June 30.
