Lehigh Township crash sends drivers to hospital

A roadway in Lehigh Township was closed for approximately one hour due to a crash that occurred Nov. 13, according to Lehigh Township Police Department Chief Scott M. Fogel.

At approximately 5:35 p.m., Lehigh Township Police Department officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Route 248 (Lehigh Drive) at Gap View Drive. A maroon Hyundai Sonata, driven by Tanya Piccolo, 33, of Palmerton, was traveling eastbound on Route 248 and collided head on with a maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling westbound on Lehigh Drive. The Trailblazer was operated by Gregory Bredbenner, 61, of Northampton.

According to witness information, the Hyundai Sonata crossed into the oncoming lane of travel and collided with the Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Air bags were deployed in both vehicles. Both drivers were transported by Northampton Regional EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.

The township police department was assisted by Lehigh Township Fire & Rescue and Lehigh Township Fire Police. The crash is currently under investigation.

Injury status was not known as of press time.
