EHS hosts improved ‘Canes

Emmaus hosts its second consecutive game as Liberty (2-4) pays a visit to South Cedar Crest Boulevard this Friday night.

The Hurricanes have improved already on last season’s win output for coach Shawn Daignault, and are coming off a 44-28 win over East Stroudsburg South. With the exception of a 42-0 wipeout loss to Nazareth, the ‘Canes have been consistently able to score and have been in all their games, a credit to Daignault, his staff and players.

Quarterback Tommy Mason runs the Liberty offense and has been consistent, although he does have a penchant for interceptions.

Developing cohesion in the rushing attack has been a season-long pursuit. The Hurricanes believe in diversifying touches and that means several young men should handle the rock against Emmaus, although Jayden Rosado should get more than anyone. Rosado, a senior, had his season’s best game against Whitehall when he gained 119 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns.

The receiving corps is led by three players - Karim Brice, Nico Sciarra and Marcus Askerneese. All three run good routes. The offensive line is anchored by seniors Jordan Bartholomew and Jelani Leslie.

Defensively the Hurricanes have struggled. The opposition can and will move the ball and rack up points. Daignault has simplified the defensive schemes to allow the players to simply react and destroy. At best it’s been a mixed bag. The ‘Canes utilize two-way players Brice, Sciarra, Bartholomew and Leslie along with Guillaume Lumbayi. Siddiqu Small has had also a solid season through six games.
