Gerald A. Scharer

Gerald A. Scharer, 79, of Macungie, died peacefully Nov. 10, 2021, at home, surrounded by his wife, Gloria and two sons. He and his wife were married for 57 years. He was born in Trenton, N.J. and resided in the Lehigh Valley for the last 49 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War and was stationed on board the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., where he was the fuel oil king.

He had multiple positions as a boiler inspector and finally retired from Air Products after 28 years of service.

He was a member of the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Association and was a member of the Topton and Boyertown American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Kevin and Karl and his wife, Shelley; grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Abigayle, Ryleigh, Reid, Kylie, Alex and Tyler. He was predeceased by a daughter, Amy Lynn and a granddaughter, Karlyn.

Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice.

A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 20 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, followed by an 11 a.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial.
