Harriers end season

The 2021 Whitehall Zephyr cross country girls and boys seasons ended last Thursday at the District 11 3A cross country championships at DeSales University.

The girls finished in 11th place with a 24:17 time, while the boys took 12th in 20:09.

Leading the way for the girls was junior Mikayla Warren, who took 28th place in 21:50. Senior Mackenzie Laub and sophomore Tessa Hopkins were the next Whitehall finishers, taking 56th and 58th. Grace Tsamutalis, Kathy Chen, Kyla Pascoe and Allison Pavone completed the Zephyr contingent.

“I think I did pretty well with my strategy from last meet,” said Warren. “With this extra day that we had, it was a lot more difficult to recover.”

Warren said the DeSales course required positive thinking.

“It’s a pretty mentally-challenging course more than anything,” she said. “...You have to have a good mentality going into it.”

The boys were led by junior Christian Foehrkolb, who finished 59th in 19:24. Vinson Eggleston was the next Zephyr to cross the finish line in 19:59, good for 66th. Austin Hedrick, Bradley Erie and Matt Caley were the next three Whitehall finishers, with Gavin Hagley and Aiden Borkenhagen rounding out the roster.
