Trojan girls lax looks to rebound from losses

The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team has hit a rough patch of late, losing two games in a row after a four-game win streak to close out the month of April.

Following a narrow, one-goal setback to Freedom, the Trojans (7-5 overall, 4-4 EPC) were on the wrong end of a double-digit goal game, falling at Easton 17-5 last Monday evening in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game at Easton Area High School.

The Red Rovers (13-0, 8-0) have been a top team in the conference and are undefeated, also handing Emmaus (15-1, 7-1) its lone loss of the year last week.

“Easton is a well-coached and poised team,” said head coach Dawn Cipolla. “They all are athletic and very skilled players with a lot of speed. They really make it hard on you out there on the field and are going to be a contender in the end.”

The Trojans have not dropped their heads, however, according to Cipolla, her team knows there are still games to be played and want to finish off the year strong.

“We had a great practice today,” Cipolla said. “They continue to work hard, listen to what we need changed, are ready for any challenge they meet by working as a team.”

Cipolla highlighted a few players that have stood out to her recently and have worked hard and shown leadership.

“Katey Kunz shows up every game and practice with a positive energy and a will to stop the ball,” said Cipolla. “I saw a new Maeve Leonzi in the Freedom game, she played with the eye of the tiger. Sophie Marcotte has become a threat in the attacking zone. Gigi Leonzi is starting to realize she can be a threat on offense. I saw speed in Nikki Boyer that I have never seen before. Emily Green and Morgan Napolitano lead our defense by instructing and stopping our opponents. Emily has become a major clearer in the defensive end. Morgan Dobil has picked some key ground balls for us.”
