Parkland School District will be inaugurating a remedial summer library reading camp for elementary students comprised of three sessions, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., in July and August.

Director of Community Relations and Development Nicole McGalla commented on the Book Quest Summer Library program.

“It’s new this year for children needing a bit of intervention to close learning gaps and to keep learning over the summer,” McGalla said.

She said people have been invited to register, and families are asked to pay a small fee for it.

District Library Media Specialists Caitlin Budge, Donna Reinert and Lauren Will are in charge of the Book Quest program.

Libraries at the Cetronia, Kernsville, Kratzer and Veterans Memorial elementary schools will be open at different times for children not participating in Book Quest.

In other matters at the April 20 meeting, the board approved three individuals who will each serve as department heads at Orefield and Springhouse middle schools and the high school.

Bruce Lubak will take over as technology education department chairman to replace James Kester.

Kristen Shickora will become family and consumer science department chairwoman. She is replacing Donna Robertson.

Monica Danner will take over as art department chairwoman to replace Richard Shemonsky.

Moving onto another topic, the board approved Sarah Schaffer as junior varsity cheerleading coach and Casey Gruveras as assistant cheerleading coach, both at the high school.

Looking toward material items for 2021-22, the board approved bids totaling $27,391 for art supplies from various vendors and $27,802 for copy paper from W.B. Mason for the next school term.
