Tea time

The George Taylor House opened its doors May 8, the day before Mother’s Day, to celebrate moms. The tea and sewing event was hosted by the George Taylor House Association, a group of volunteers who keep the house and the grounds maintained.

“It was a first-of-its-kind event for us, and we were happy for all our guests,” Melissa Taylor said. “It was something we want to have every year.”

The tables were set for English tea with the option to try the Revolution tea.

The repast included salmon crudites, cucumber sandwiches and bakery treats, including Marlboro pie and an apple-based pie that serves as a staple for events.

While moms had tea with goodies, children were content with rollicking in the green grass and eating pepperoni pizza, a thoroughly un-Revolutionary treat.

The George Taylor group added more volunteers from the Gettysburg area. Angela Landskron agreed to help as an archaeologist.

The next event is a tour, scheduled for noon-4 p.m. May 16.
