Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, welcomes the community to an evening of food, music and family fun Aug. 2 in the church grove.

PFG Pizza food truck will be on site 4:30-8 p.m., and Woodside Avenue will provide live entertainment from 5:30-8 p.m.

Guests can enjoy free popcorn, the playground and activities for children.

Hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, or relax in the covered picnic table area.

The church’s Fellowship Committee also invites everyone to a family picnic at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9 in the grove.

Hot dogs, turkey barbecue and beverages will be provided, with gluten-free and vegetarian options available.

Guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. The afternoon will include a cake walk and bingo.

A coalition of 13 “Love Your Neighbor” churches is working together to raise $20,000 to forgive up to $3 million in medical debt in Lehigh and Northampton counties through the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt.

The fundraising total will be announced that day during a community picnic and celebration from 3-7 p.m. in the church grove.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, is working with North Whitehall Township to establish the church as a community warming and cooling center for use during weather-related emergencies.

Planning and discussions for the project are underway.

Although rain dampened the Upper Lehigh Lions Club Craft Fair July 18, it did not dampen the spirits of those who attended.

Lions Club volunteers were ready in the kitchen serving hot food and baked goods, while vendors who remained through the afternoon cheerfully displayed their handcrafted items.

One vendor said she sold enough merchandise to cover the cost of her booth and still earn a small profit.

Another couple proudly demonstrated the painted concrete lawn ornaments they create, explaining how each piece is made.

The weather may not have cooperated, but the event still showcased the dedication, creativity and positive spirit of the volunteers and vendors who made the best of a rainy day.
