Army Capt. Marissa Zator cuts ribbon at Ft. Stewart tax center

Officer in charge of the Marne Tax Centers at both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Air Field, in Georgia, U.S. Army Capt. Marissa Zator, was on hand, with scissors in hand, to oversee the official opening of the two centers serving military personnel and their families.

She joined Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander Col. Kevin Gregory; Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Myron J. Lewis; and military and civilian certified tax preparers, to cut the ribbon in January at the tax center for this year's tax filing season.

A 2005 graduate of Parkland High School, Zator is the daughter of Attorney Joseph Zator and his wife, Maria.

Also an attorney, like her father, Zator serves with the U.S. Army JAG Corps.

Marissa, called "Rissy" by her family, attended Villanova School of Business, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in management and international business.

She graduated from Boston University School of Law in 2012.

Zator said, in an interview at the time with The Frontline, the newspaper of the 3rd Infantry Division, there were 37 IRS certified tax preparers, soldiers and eight civilians, supporting the centers at Stewart and Hunter.

"All preparers receive our training through the IRS and must be certified to prepare taxes," Zator said. "Our experienced staff also conduct tax preparation training."

Zator said clients could walk in, make an appointment or drop off documents for tax work.

"Our dedicated and trained staff is ready to prepare both your federal and state tax returns at no cost to you and your family," Zator said in the interview. "In addition, by electronically filing your taxes, any refund due to you will usually be received within seven to 10 business days."

Zator said every client must have all of the Social Security cards and military IDs for the taxpayer, spouse and any dependents being claimed.

"Clients should also bring in their prior year return," Zator said. "Beyond that, the documents taxpayers need to bring are different because every taxpayer's situation is different.
