Upper Macungie Twp holds first board meeting at Community Lifestyle Center
The Upper Macungie Township board of supervisors held its July 2 meeting at the township’s new Community Lifestyle Center as township staff completed the move into the new municipal building at 7540 Windsor Dr.
The temporary meeting location gave residents their first opportunity to attend a board meeting on the township’s new civic campus. Township officials recently relocated administrative offices to the new building, where offices are now located in Suite 311.
A grand opening for the Community Lifestyle Center is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Despite temperatures reaching the 90s outside, the air-conditioned facility provided a comfortable setting as supervisors conducted township business.
The board approved June financial reports totaling $6,438,768.04 in expenditures. Supervisors Jeff Fleischaker and Sunny Ghai also shared lighthearted remarks about conducting their first meeting without former Supervisor Julien Godbarge, who resigned in June, before moving on to the evening’s agenda.
The board voted to table a proposed parks and recreation ordinance until August after discussing provisions related to designated smoking areas and mobile food vendors. Supervisors also approved an updated fee schedule for the Community Lifestyle Center and authorized a resolution supporting a $1.297 million grant application for the Lone Lane Connectivity Project.
In addition, the board presented honorary lifetime memberships to Township Manager Robert Ibach Jr. and Howard Cook in recognition of their service to the township.
During public comment, officials addressed ongoing traffic concerns at the intersection of Blue Barn and Memorial roads. They noted a new traffic camera has been installed and that the intersection continues to be monitored.
