Northampton's girls "never say never" as far as their basketball season is concerned.
The Konkrete Kids upset Parkland 42-39 last Friday and defeated Emmaus on the road Tuesday night and now have a 5-8 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Skyline Division record - which means they must win their remaining three EPC games to finish at .500 and earn a berth in the District 11 Class 4A playoffs.
The Kids, who earlier last week lost 46-31 at Nazareth, are 6-13 overall and need an 8-8 finish in the EPC to qualify.
Coach Jeff Jacksits' Kids, who played at Emmaus - a team which the Kids beat earlier in the season, still have a home game with Whitehall on Friday and visit Central Catholic next Tuesday before closing play against Nazareth at home on Thursday, Feb. 7, in their finale.
The NHS girls managed to knock off Emmaus on Tuesday night with Giovanna Martinez leading the way with 19 points in the 47-35 victory.
So, the road ahead may still be tough, but Northampton's girls never quit.
Northampton played its best "team game" against Parkland with four girls doing all the scoring.
Sophomore Aja Blount led the way with 17 points, while juniors Sophia Eckroth and Lauren Sterner each had 10 and senior Ali Reppert had five. The Kids trailed 15-12 after one period, but outscored the Trojans 14-8 in the second quarter for a 26-23 lead and boosted the lead to 38-31 after three and then hung on for the win.
Against Nazareth, one of the Skyline Division's top teams, the Kids fell behind 16-5 early and just couldn't catch up despite an 18-point output by Blount, who has 289 points for the Kids this season.
