Swimmers beat PMW
The Northampton varsity swim team traveled to the northern end of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference on Thursday, Jan. 8, for s matchup that would leave the Northampton girls victorious by a wide margin as they defeated Pocono Mountain West by a score of 113-47.
Leading the list of wins for the girls were Annalise Christy, Brynn Delvecchio, and Rachel Pursell.
These veteran Northampton swimmers all claimed double wins for Northampton in last Thursday's meet. In the distance events, Christy took first place in the 500 yard freestyle, leaving the second place finisher behind by almost a full minute with a time of 5:57.47. Christy also took first in the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 2:14.45.
Pursell displayed her strength with a solid win the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:27.86. Pursell also won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.03.
Rounding out Northampton's wins in the 100 yard events, Brynn Delvecchio took first place in both the 100 yard backstroke and the 100 yard freestyle with times of 1:07.70 and 59.84 respectively.
The Northampton boys team also defeated Pocono Mountain West on Thursday, though not by as wide of a margin as the girls team achieved.
The final score of the boys contest was Northampton 81, Pocono Mountain West 78.
Keeping with the theme of double Northampton wins for this meet, Kaden Chambers and Mike Bauer both reached the wall first on two individual events. In the distance events, Chambers claimed two victories, one in the 500 freestyle and the other in the 200 yard freestyle with winning times of 5:08.82 and 1:53.48 respectively.
In the sprints, Bauer took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.05. Bauer also took first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a final time of 1:00.21.
The boys also claimed a relay win in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Steton Weber, Jarin Gaumer, Jared Iasiello, and Josh Millan took first place with a final time of 3:54.33.
