Konkrete Kids face flurry of wrestling
Northampton and Easton was always one of the marquee bouts on the wrestling calendar when Seth Lisa competed for the K-Kids.
While both programs may not be the top dogs in the area like they used to be, the rivalry is well and alive as both squared off last night in an East Penn Conference match past Press deadlines.
Northampton (4-6) has an eventful week ahead of them still, as Monday's bout with Pocono Mountain East was pushed back to tonight followed by this weekend's trip to Council Rock South for the Escape the Rock tournament.
It'll be an important stretch over four days that could dictate the Kids future possibility of qualifying for district duals, but all Lisa worried about heading into Wednesday night was a battle with the Rovers.
"Easton and Northampton has always been an important match," he said. "We have a great rivalry with them and the dual meet is always exciting. For us, we need to start to find a way to win close matches."
In last Saturday's 44-20 defeat to Parkland, Lisa had examples of close defeats, as Zach Rooks lost a 4-3 decision to Lee Todora at 138, followed by Mark Schuon's 5-3 loss to Anthony Chidiac at 145, but the Kids also gave up four falls, two major decisions and a forfeit at 220 to give the Trojans plenty of bonus points.
The Kids needed to come out with a stronger ability to keep more matches close against the Rovers.
"All the Easton wrestlers are well coached and wrestle with confidence," said Lisa. "Our guys need to rise to the occasion and fight for six minutes. We need to be the aggressor and move forward if we are going to win the close ones. It's easier to score points when you are offensive instead of defensive."
Following this weekend's results, the Kids finish off their regular season with matches against Dieruff, Whitehall and Pocono Mountain West.
