Kids shaking off loss to P'burg

Northampton's wrestling team should have got a shot of good fortune following Wednesday's dual meet with Pocono Mountain West.

The K-Kids came into the bout with a 1-5 overall record, following Saturday's 51-12 defeat to Phillipsburg.

Despite PMW entering with a 2-3 overall mark, Northampton should have had a chance to flex their muscles against their northern counterparts, in a bout that was past Press deadlines.

The Kids continue their Pocono Mountain trek in the schedule by taking on Pocono Mountain East (5-5) next Monday.

Head coach Seth Lisa knows following his team's lopsided defeat to Phillipsburg, that his group will be hungry to come out and get some wins over the next week.

"The P'burg match was difficult for us," said Lisa. "Our guys work very hard in the room but unfortunately that didn't show. This team, win or lose, knows that in order to reach their goals at the end of the year they have to continue to stay positive and work hard."

One bright spot to take away from the P'Burg match was Michael Scheetz's inclusion in the lineup at 126, where he scored a 5-3 decision over Brian Meyer. Scheetz has been out of the lineup for undisclosed reasons throughout the month of December and getting him back into form is crucial for the Kids heading into the individual postseason.

Todd Hetrick (132) continued his stellar start to the year, as he knocked off P'burg's Donald Agans 7-0 to give Northampton two of their wins in the bout.

Andrew Szerencsits (152) and Jason Kocher (220) also recorded decisions for the Kids in the bout.

Dan Moran (113) fell to his recent New Jersey nemesis again over the weekend, losing a 6-4 decision to Brandon Paetzell, who defeated him 3-1 at the Beast of the East finals in late December.

Now, the focus is to get things back on track for all the wrestlers in the program.

"These guys have been improving all year," Lisa said. "They are excited about the upcoming weeks. We feel that all the matches in the coming weeks are important to our season. The goal is always to win, every time you wrestle."

The Kids round out their week by competing at the Parkland Duals this Saturday.
