Coplay column

orough public works personnel completed their final yard waste and leaf pickup on Friday.

Crews are now ready to pickup discarded Christmas trees. Although the trees will be picked up in January, every holiday season there are one or more residents whose trees, surprisingly, are outside, awaiting pickup already on Christmas Day, with some more on Dec. 26.

The borough office at the Fourth Street municipal building will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, but it's a bit different for the public works crew. They will be off on Dec. 25 for Christmas and the following day, Friday, Dec. 26. They will be working Dec. 24.

The upgrade and replacement of UGI gas lines across the borough was supposed to be a one-year project, but was extended, and now faces a possibility of being halted for the winter.

There has been no official word if that is the case and when it would resume, but some residents are not happy because of a delay in repairing the macadam.

The Coplay newsletter has been a staple in town for 33 years.

Responding to some readers inquires on whether the newsletter will again be delivered via mail to borough residents, the answer is no.

Mail costs, post office regulations on how it is to be mailed, along with information now being posted on the borough website are reasons for that not happening.

Several businesses, churches, restaurants have the current copies of the newsletter available.

Copies are also available at borough hall.
