K-Kids end streak ahead of CHS game
Northampton snapped a nine-game losing streak last weekend, defeating Owen J. Roberts 13-7 in a non-league contingency contest.
The win was the first for Northampton since a week one victory over Allen and head coach Mark Scisly was happy to get a win as his team prepares for their Thanksgiving Day clash with Catasauqua.
"It means a lot to get a win," Scisly said. "Hopefully it will build some momentum going into Thanksgiving. It had been a long nine weeks playing in the EPC."
A 10-yard touchdown run by Jovani Datis-Cordero and a one-yard plunge by Andrew Szerenscits in the second quarter added up to all the points that Northampton needed on the night, as the K-Kids (2-9, 0-8) managed to win a contest where they were outgained (228-211) and had less first downs (10-to-15).
One thing the Kids stuck with was their rushing attack, which mustered 203 yards, led by Datis-Cordero's 97 yards.
Playing a non-league game leading up to the Catty contest, helped Northampton break up the monotony of practice over the next two weeks, but also build momentum with a win.
"Contingency games help break up the long layoff between the end of the year and Thanksgiving," Scisly said. "They also give you a chance to play a non-league game. Currently, that's not allowed in the EPC. It is always fun to go play someone else who you are unfamiliar with. The EPC South is probably the toughest league in the state. We played seven playoff teams out of our 10 games this season."
Despite OJR's 2-9 record as well, the win does give Northampton an added pep in their step leading into their annual rivalry clash two weeks from now.
"We didn't play a great second half, but our guys found a way to win in the fourth quarter with a defensive stand," said Scisly of last week's win. "Hopefully it will build momentum into the [Catty] game and give our guys some confidence."
