Perelli 9th at leagues
Northampton High School cross country runners, Jo Perelli and Lyndsey Gallagher medaled in the East Penn Conference Cross Country Championships on Tuesday at the Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.
Perelli placed 9th with a time of 19:55.
"The first mile is the hardest part. You have to work people and get your place, and then just try to maintain and save for the end," Perelli said.
As usual, Perelli ran alongside Gallagher for most of the race.
"We were kind of tired, but I felt I could finish strong. It wasn't my best, but I feel more confident for next week," said Perelli.
Gallagher placed 12th with a time of 20:21.
"We had a really hard workout on Thursday, so my legs were tired. It wasn't until I got on the golf course that my legs weren't cooperating. Once Jo pulled ahead, I knew she was in good shape," Gallagher said.
Gallagher was running in 9th place into the 1 1/2 mile, then fell back into 13th place.
"I was just trying to hang on at that point, and I pushed as much as my body would allow. We finish on a hill at practice, so I knew if I could do it there, I could do it here," said Gallagher.
In the boys race, Noah Rindock placed 39th with a time of 18:39.
"I just tried to stick with [teammate] Justin Nickles. At about the two-mile marker, I passed him," Rindock said.
The EPC meet was Rindock's first race at the Bethlehem Golf Course.
"It's a tough course. There are two really steep hills. I tried to keep the same pace until the end," he said.
Rindock passed four runners within the last quarter mile.
"[My race] was all right. It was slower than I thought. I'll probably push a little harder next week since I know what to expect now," said Rindock.
Nickles placed 44th with a time of 18:49.
The Konkrete Kids are coached by Dan Benner.
