Kids beat PHS but out of districts

In thrilling fashion, Tyler Andrews scored the winning goal with 3:44 remaining in the last overtime to give the Kids an epic 1-0 victory over Parkland last Monday night at Parkland Stadium.

From about 45 yards away, Andrew's shot hit the crossbar, then off the keepers hand and into the net, setting off bedlam on the Northampton sideline.

The Kids had played well from the second half on throughout the entire match. The midfield and defense did a good job shutting down the Trojan attack. Crisp passing was the key for the boys all night.

It was a big win for the program, though Northampton and Parkland have usually split the regular season contests over the last 3-4 years. The teams know each other all too well.

Emmaus came to Wolf Field and left with a 4-0 victory last Wednesday.

Despite the fact that the Kids shut down perennial all EPC forward John Fritz, it was Emmaus midfielder Parker Landis that gave the boys fits. He scored twice and assisted on another goal all in the first half.

Landis drilled a direct kick 13 minutes into the match and scored again 5 minutes later off a turnover in the back.

The boys played well in the second half but couldn't muster any offense to thwart the Green Hornet attack.

Having given the "sense of urgency" speech before the game, Northampton came out firing against Whitehall.

The team scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the match.

Yamil Yunez got the first goal off a penalty kick. Cameron Peploe was tripped in the box and Yunez converted the shot four minutes in. Four minutes later Peploe scored off a pretty pass from AJ Schroettner in the center midfield. Two quick passes and Peploe was in where he beat the keeper with a move and notched his seventh goal of the year.

The second half was a different story, though.

Tony Kleckner scored twice in the second half to give Whitehall the confidence it needed going into the overtime frame. His first goal came off a deflection. His second was a throughball with 7:26 to play.

In the OT frame, he flicked a ball over keeper Austin Cooper with 5 minutes to play in the game.

It was a deflating loss for the boys as they needed a win to keep their district hopes alive. Northampton had previously beaten Whitehall 1-0 earlier in the season.

With three games remaining, there was no room for error for the Northampton boys soccer playoffs.

They needed to win all three games this week and it started with a makeup game against Pocono Mountain East.

The boys came out strong, controlling the midfield and defense against a team that came into the game with 10 wins. Northampton got on the board first with Chad O'Donnell scoring off an eight-yard pass from Yamil Yunez just off the top of the 18 box. I was Chad's second goal of the year.

Marvin Roca tied the game with only 37 seconds to play in the half. He finished a playoff a direct kick inside the 18 box.

Roca scored the game winner with 5:12 to play when Doug Riotia fired a corner kick that found Roca's head and just through the hands of keeper Austin Cooper.

The loss hurts as Northampton cannot qualify for the District 11 playoffs for the first time in 5 years.

The Kids lost to Central Catholic 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday during their senior day festivities and close out the season Thursday at Nazareth.
