Cross country teams get ready for postseason
The Northampton cross country teams wrapped up their regular season Tuesday.
The girls ended on a pretty good note, beating Nazareth (28-29) and Pleasant Valley (22-36), but getting edged by Stroudsburg (28-31). The girls finished the regular season with a great mark of 11-4.
The boys beat Nazareth (27-28), but lost to Pleasant Valley (15-46) and Stroudsburg (18-45). The boys finished the regular season 6-9.
Head coach Dan Benner said, "It was a day of personal records for most of the team," as the boys and girls achieved a lot of career-best times in the meet.
Lyndsey Gallagher led the way in the girls race with a time of 18:48, good enough for first overall. Joelle Perelli was second overall with a time of 18:49.
Jessica Hendricks finish in 20:09 and was the third NHS runner to cross while taking seventh place overall.
Beth Albright was 21st overall and the fourth girl to cross with a time of 21:39. Charlie Amore had a time of 21:40 and finished 22nd overall as the fifth NHS girl.
Olivia Cappolella finished in 21:58, which was 26th overall and sixth for the Kids. Carly Hein was seventh for the Kids and 28th overall with a time of 22:01.
Other female finishers for the Kids were: Aubrey Bealer - 22:04, Brooke Ingram - 22:09, Robyn Franke - 22:11, Hannah Flaven - 24:37, Hannah Miller 25:03, Kelsey Stevens - 27:19 and Ruth Sharga - 27:48.
For the boys, Noah Rindock was the first K-Kid to cross, coming in eighth overall with a time of 17:25, which tied a personal best.
Andrew Martuscelli was the second NHS boys and took 17th in 17:50. Lucas Yost was 19th in 17:59 and Noah Durnin was 25th in 18:22. Evan Yost was 31st with a time of 18:44 and Gabe Reichenbach was 56th in 20:07. Matt Gulla finished in 21:59.
"Great weather, a faster course, and good competition lead to a great day of racing," Benner added. "All those PR's come at a great time as next week the girls and boys team head to the EPC League Championship Meet."
