Boys knock off Parkland

In a game dominated by Parkland on the stat sheet, the Kids came away with the most important number - a 1-0 victory over the Trojans on Monday.

Parkland outshot the kids 24-7 but NHS netted the game winner in the second overtime.

No other information was available, but we'll have more on the game next week.

Coming off a win the previous Saturday, coach Craig Carvin insisted Northampton had to get back to .500 and being at even money status heading into last week's contest against Central Catholic.

The first half of the game would not indicate that as the Kids came out flat, yielding a goal 15 minutes in. The coaching staff pointed out what needed to be fixed and the Kids managed to do just that in the second half.

Junior reserve Tom Reinhard worked hard to push the attack into the Viking final third all second half. With 21 minutes to go he made a move inside the box and was tripped resulting in a penalty kick. AJ Schroettner elected to take it, but missed the shot. Luckily, AJ drilled the rebound into the goal and the 1-1 tie. The game swayed in the Kids favor but needed overtime for the win.

Another reserve Yamil Yunez, who also played a great game, scored the winning goal with four minutes left in the second overtime and the 2-1 win. He fired a deflected ball into the far post that goalie Trevor Grigorek never saw until it was past him. The sun didn't do him any favors either.

Tyler Andrews anchored the balkline, shutting down Central's speed all day. Matt Peluszak continues to play well in the center back position; a spot he will have for the next two years as he is only a sophomore.

It was a great team win as the Kids got back to even money.

Northampton dominated play all day versus a pretty good Nazareth team but had the game taken away from them. Poor officiating cost the Kids a third-straight victory Thursday afternoon at Wolf Field and lost 3-1.

Nazareth converted a penalty kick halfway through the second half. Zach Penrose was called for the foul when it appeared he was well outside the 18 box and the referee insisted he was.

Things didn't get better.

With four minutes left Armando Gonzalez broke the 1-1 tie when he managed to poke the ball out of keeper Austin Cooper's hands and into the net. It appeared Cooper had full possession but the scrum in front of the net led to Cooper getting cleated in the shoulder and bulldozed by a Nazareth forward. The referees should have blown the whistle and the play dead. It should be noted that the Nazareth player apologized to Cooper for the foul after the game for the foul that was never called. Its good to see sportsmanship between two rivals.

Northampton lost its composure so much that the Blue Eagles got one more goal and the 3-1 win. By this time four yellow cards were handed out, including Coach Carvin, who was pleading with the game officials over the non-calls. It was a heart breaking loss for the Kids, who had controlled the tempo of the game all day.

The lone Northampton goal was scored by Jared Fantasia, who finished a pass fed to him across the box by Cameron Peploe. Peploe beat three defenders up the right wing to get the play started. The goal was scored with 18 minutes left in the first half.

The tough loss the Kids endured the previous day still lingered Friday afternoon at Wolf Field. Nonconference opponent So Lehigh came to Wolf and left with a 3-1 win.

The Spartans had a 2-0 lead halfway through the first half. They scored off a throw-in as well as quick 1-2 passing inside the 18 box.

Freshmen Jason Santos cut that lead in half with 11 minutes to go. Yamil Yunez made a great play to keep the ball in their end and slotted a ball across to Santos. Santos used his leg strength to shoot a long ball high near the upper 90 which found the net and his first varsity goal.

So Lehigh got one more in the second half. Northampton couldn't generate much else as most of the play stayed in the midfield.

With six games remaining, Northampton must win four. They have a long week ahead as they play 4 matches this week. The boys will play at Parkland Monday night, host Emmaus Wednesday afternoon, at Whitehall Friday night, and a makeup game Saturday morning at Wolf Field versus Pocono Mt. East.

GIRLS

The girls fell to Nazareth 3-0 in a game from last week.

Northampton got off to a 1-0 lead against Southern Lehigh before allowing six, second half goals en route to a 6-1 loss.

Cierra Snyder scored the Kids only goal in the first half.

But Kaitlyn Hogman led the way in the second half for the Spartans with two goals. Abbey Carciello, Bridget Carciello and Danielle Sanchez each added goals in the loss.

Parkland knocked off the Kids 5-0.

Brooke Schutter's two first half goals were all the Trojans needed.
