Konkrete Kids aim to knock off Nazareth

With three consecutive losses to Parkland, Easton and Freedom, teams that are a combined 12-0 this season, Northampton head coach Mark Scisly doesn't feel any relief heading into this Friday's encounter with a winless Nazareth (0-4) team.

The K-Kids have their own set of issues they need to deal with following last week's 34-7 defeat to Freedom, which has put them at 1-3 on the season since a week one victory over Allen.

"I have no sense of relief," said Scisly in regards to the prospects of this week's home game against the Blue Eagles. "We need to get better in all aspects of the game. We go into every week playing and game planning to win. This week is no different."

Scisly's answers are pretty cut and dry and so has Northampton's offense as of late, as the Kids rushed for 138 yards last week and threw for 38 yards. Through four games this season, quarterback Cory Croll has gone 12-of-33 for 131 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Finding a balance with the passing attack is something Northampton has not been able to achieve this season, even in their regular season opener against Allen.

Nazareth is led with quarterback Justin Albert through the air and the Blue Eagles have proven that they can score, despite being winless following last week's 34-27 defeat to Emmaus.

The Blue Eagles threw for 242 yards in the air last week and ran for 136 yards in the loss, but it showed that they move the ball.

On the other end of things, Nazareth's defense has been horrid this season, giving up 42.5 per game. Emmaus ran for 356 yards last week on the ground to go along with five rushing touchdowns, which is a recipe that Scisly and company would like to equate this week.

"I think it is a good match-up for us on the line of scrimmage," he said. "We have a bigger and more physical line, but we need to prove it Friday night. We also have to do a better job in our pass defense. They throw the ball very well."

More importantly than anything, Northampton has to get a win this week to rid themselves of the results from the past three weeks.

Playing a home game on Nazareth's home turf isn't a big deal to Scisly, who doesn't see a disadvantage in the scenario, but he knows that his team needs to restore some confidence this week against an opponent that is eyeing this encounter as an opportunity for their first win of the season.

"Nazareth is hungry for a win and they play hard for all four quarters," said Scisly. "We need to win the battle on the line of scrimmage. We haven't done that since week one. We also have to be more consistent in our assignments. We don't have the team speed to be able to get away with missed blocks or negative plays."
