Soccer: Boys fall to Emmaus, girls lose three games

The boys soccer team split two recent games, falling to Emmaus 3-0 and knocking off Whitehall 1-0.

Emmaus striker John Fritz scored two times in the second half, both off assists from Parker Landis, to put away Northampton last Thursday night at Emmaus' Memorial Field for a 3-0 win.

Both of his goals were created from the center of the pitch. Landis, who should be among the area leaders in assists, fed Fritz perfectly and he knifed through two defenders both times to notch the goals.

Landis assisted on the game's first goal as well, which was scored by Greg Lind.

Having played Parkland two days prior, Northampton was prepared to play another quality team in Emmaus. They also practiced playing the ball wide on Wednesday in pre-game practice. Despite the end result, the Kids played hard and very well.

Coach Carvin praised his team for their efforts.

"Matt Peluszak was big back there," Carvin said. "He played like he was 6-6, 250, having to mark one of the premier players in the league in Fritz. The rest of our defense also played very well. We just ran out of steam late in the second half. If we give this kind of effort in our remaining games, we will be fine and things will turn around in our favor."

Cameron Peploe scored his fourth goal of the year off a pass from the wing from Zach Penrose to lead Northampton to a 1-0 win on Saturday at Wolf Field.

Peploe's shot was a bullet low to the far post corner and Whitehall keeper Chase Missmer had no chance to stop it. It was all the Kids needed to earn a very important conference win.

An early morning rain made field conditions less than favorable for both squads as often times the teams were slipping and falling giving the other side chances to capitalize. Kids goalie Austin Cooper had a great game in goal making five saves for the shutout.

Northampton and Whitehall always play matches that are heated and get the attention of the officials. Each team bought two yellow cards a piece. They will play each other again on October 3, and you can bet another tough game as it could be a match needed by both squads for District XI qualification implications.

Northampton will play at Stroudsburg Monday, Pocono Mtn East Wednesday, both past Press deadlines, and at East Stroudsburg North on Friday.

GIRLS

The girls team dropped three recent games to Emmaus, Whitehall and Stroudsburg.

Against the Hornets, the Kids fell 3-1. Emmaus scored twice in the first half. Reilly McGinnis got her team on the board on a pass from Megan Snyder. But just five minutes later the Kids would tie it on a goal from Breaunna Colonna-Dotter off an assist by Cierra Snyder.

But Emmaus would score again in the half on a tally from Jenny Fritz at the eight-minute mark. Liz Kester scored in the second half for Emmaus on a pass from Kristen Roth.
