Despite a 5-1 loss to Nazareth last week, Bethlehem Catholic High School's girls tennis team continues to develop for the future.
Coach George Harmanos said, "Each match is giving the girls valuable experience that will translate to victories in the future."
As of Press deadlines, Becahi's number three singles player, Molly Ehrig, is undefeated at 9-0.
The Beca freshman was the only player to win her match against Nazareth, defeating Sydney DeNardo, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
Brooke Adams lost to Alison Smith at number one singles, 4-6, 4-6, and Tess Shuler lost to Amber Achenbach, 3-6, 5-7 at number two singles.
Regarding the challenges Shuler faced against Achenbach, the Becahi sophomore said, "I think trying to not hit out as much and being consistent."
On the positive side, Shuler won a game on serves alone.
"I was doing more approach shots, and I was following through. Placement was also a factor," she said.
Shuler has transitioned this season from a doubles player to singles.
"I wish I was playing with Sam [Macaluso] again. Playing singles is a lot more work because no one is there, supporting you the whole match," said Shuler.
Shuler, however, plays at number one doubles with Adams. They were leading 5-2 over Smith and Achenbach when the match was called on account of darkness.
"When we are aggressive and start having more fun, that's when we win more points," Shuler said.
At number two doubles, Nazareth's Madison Stewart and Julianna Mitchell defeated Macaluso and Maureen Mazza, 6-7, 2-6.
Macaluso said, "We were up 5-2 [in the first set]. They were making really good attack shots, and it was really hard for us to get them back. I think we were really disappointed losing the tiebreak, so I don't think we could have played as well in the second set."
At number three doubles, Hannah Madden & Leah Colussi of Nazareth defeated Tori Evert and Allie Palmisano 6-2, 7-6, and at number four doubles, Nazareth's Emma Haynes and Olivia Giralico defeated Jade Devlin and Liah Perez, 6-3, 6-1.
