LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

PHS routs Kids, EHS next

A week after defeating Allen, Northampton was dumped back into reality following a 49-0 shellacking at the hands of Parkland last week.

Parkland exploded for 28 points in the second quarter to take a 35-0 lead into halftime, which was good enough to get the mercy rule in effect, as the Trojans compiled 413 yards of offense, 314 of which came via the running game.

Kids' head coach Mark Scisly saw his team battle in the first quarter and hopes they can believe in themselves a little more, like he did during last week's tilt.

"Our guys need to do a better job believing in their abilities," Scisly said. "The game was close in the first quarter and we had some chances to score. We need to learn to overcome fatigue and play four quarters of football."

With Easton (2-0), winners of a 35-7 affair over Emmaus last week, on the docket this Friday, Northampton (1-1) has no choice but to believe with one of the toughest teams in the District on the agenda.

"Parkland and Easton have two totally different styles of football," said Scisly. "Parkland is a finesse football team built around speed, while Easton is a hard-nosed football team built around toughness and tradition."

And that hard-nosed attack is centered around senior running back Shane Simpson, who struggled with cramps in last week's win over the Hornets.

Simpson is one of the best player's in the league and Scisly knows he needs to find a way to neutralize him.

"We can't give him open field to run in," said Scisly. "We need to keep him moving east and west, rather than north and south."

With two difficult games in consecutive weeks, Scisly doesn't want to think about how his team will deal with this stretch, rather, focusing on the present.

"We are just planning on taking it one week at a time," he said. "Right now we are focused on Easton. We aren't worried about the past or the future right now."
