Perelli, Gallagher finish one-two at home meet

The Northampton girls went 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a home meet to improve their record to 4-1 this season.

They defeated Becahi 15-50, Freedom 25-30, and Liberty 23-32.

Joelle Perelli won the race in a time of 19:35. Lyndsey Gallagher was second overall in a time of 19:39. Jessica Hendricks was third on the team and sixth overall in 21:01. Olivia Cappolella was fourth on the team and 13th overall. And the top five was rounded out with Charlie Amore taking 17th in 22:46.

"Lyndsey Gallagher and Joelle Perelli have consistently been among the best in the league to start the year off," said head coach Dan Benner. "Jessica Hendricks is slightly ahead of her pace last year, which is encouraging as we move through the early stages of the season. Olivia Cappolella has come in as a freshmen and has really worked hard. She has been a solid four on our team."

Benner has also been happy with the depth of the girls team.

"Brooke Ingram and Charlie Amore have both made great strides from last year," Benner said. "Carly Hein, a first time cross country runner, has worked her way into a team scoring position early on.

"I feel we have the potential to be a threat, but only if some of our younger runners can make the transition to the high school level."

The boys went 1-2 on the day, defeating Becahi 15-46, but losing to Freedom 15-47 and Liberty 18-43.

Noah Rindock was 10th overall and first for the team in 17:46.

"There is still a lot of work to be done, but the first few races look promising for him," Benner said about Rindock.

The top five for the Kids were: Justin Nikles (13th) 18:07, Lucas Yost (19th) 18:28, Andrew Martuscelli (22nd) 18:39, and Noah Durnin (31st) 19:12.

"Andrew Martuscelli, Lucas Yost, and Noah Durnin have solidified themselves in our top five with some good races," Benner said. "Evan Yost is showing some signs as a freshmen. Our top seven has been rounded out with Gabe Reichenbach. Gabe's improvement has been really impressive so far in the season."

The team's next meet is on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Desales Invitational.
